Assworth…

It has come to our attention in recent days that a large corporate player within the golf industry seems to have come out with a similar golf line. To us, originality truly doesn’t exist. We are influenced and inspired by our life experiences because that’s the only thing that we have, experience. Sure it’s possible that it’s a coincidence but somehow we feel like we’ve been studied by a non-creative marketing department and they’ve spit out their version. Let’s see the similarities: Golf apparel company marketing to the younger golfers using screen printed graphics and using the number 33 within their brand. Hmmmmm.

Basically it comes down to them using the number 33 within the realm of golf which annoys us. The number 33 for Triple Bogey® has a lot of meaning and has been used by Hoopenfaust as his pseudonym since we was 17 years old. He always signed his work 33% God

Triple Bogey® has been using the 33 as a sub brand since the inception of the company back in 2006. Once Hoopenfaust got on board he researched golf for months before coming up with a concept for the company. We liked the story behind old Scottish links and the Freemason involvement in the development of the game, so we incorporated some elements. It was the idea of creating marketing using the Freemason conspiracy theories that really gave a story to the brand.

We adopted the 33 because it fit perfectly. The highest level or rank a Freemason can achieve within it’s society is the 33rd degree. It was amazing how well it fit. They’re are so many reasons why we use the 33, it’s important to us as a company and between friends. Hoopenfaust has 33% God tattooed on his right arm while the owner of Rogue Status has his tattooed across his chest. Tell us we’re not serious about the number.

While in California we’ve had to explain the number 33 to some large brands as cross marketing is something we’re heavily involved with. We’ve had to explain it to the owner of Stussy clothing, we’ve collaborated on essays to explain the 33 to Toyota, the list goes on. This isn’t a hollow idea. It is a well thought out, studied concept.

Here is the quote from this Corporate Machine explaining why they use 33:

People will wonder what our ‘33′ Mark means. It’s a universal number, the magical intersection of youth and experience. It serves as a reminder to ‘Mellow Out’ just a bit, but it’s also open to interpretation.

That sounds like the writing of a recent marketing grad. Utter horseshit. “The magical intersection of youth and experience”. There is nothing magical about that. That is a made up statement, written after the fact. Totally hollow. When I think of the number 33… It doesn’t conjure up images of “mellowing out”. Sorry but your marketing has no substance, therefore it seems suspect.

We refuse to put their link up since it will drive traffic to their site and search engines love links when it comes to rankings. We won’t even post a pic of their over priced clothes showing their “edgy” golf shirts. All this means to us is we’re going to war. We’ve decided that we’re going to own the mind share of 33. We’re going to show the backbone behind this idea and brand the fuck out of it. It’s ours.

p.s. Just a message to all corporate golf companies. If you need to explain what your brand stands for in the literal sense, you have no clue what a brand is and we’re not here to explain it to you. You still probably live in the world where you think your logo is your brand.

p.s.s. Maybe it’s because of your lack of originality and vision that has caused your stock to plummet the last 3 years. Stockholders smell your inability to innovate so that’s why they’ve been selling it off.
